Generally speaking when heading to a new country travelers look forward to checking out the various tourist attractions, beaches, and mountains etc. For Chile this was not the case. The main attraction in heading to Chile was staying with Jens cousin Aedan. After spending our time in Argentina in dorm rooms and sharing one toilet between 20-30 people we were now in store for a private room, private bathroom, great host and a maid!
Aedan owns a dairy farm at the base of the Andes in a small town called Futrono. The area is in the Chilean Lakes district and it is stunning. The region is a mix of lakes, snow capped volcanoes with the every present backdrop of mist and the Andes mountain range. Aedan was a brilliant host and after milking each morning would take us on tours around the area. We visited the nearby coast, several Lakes and an amazing natural hot water spring deep in the mountains.
Aedan’s maid (Flor) is a legend and would prepare beautiful meals three times a day. No two meals were the same and everything was hand made and fresh. It was an absolute treat and a good change from fighting for a pan and hob with a bunch of backpackers!
After a week in Chile our batteries were recharged, laundry clean and we were ready to return to the real world!
Cheers for Aedan and Flor for hospitality!
